The University of Jember, through PUI-PT Combinatorics and Graph, successfully held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled "Blockchain Technology for Decentralized Finance" on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. The event was conducted virtually via Zoom and attended by academics, practitioners, and students from various institutions. The discussion aimed to explore the potential of blockchain technology in supporting the development of decentralized finance that is more inclusive, secure, and sustainable.
The event began with opening remarks by Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., a prominent figure at the University of Jember. In his speech, Prof. Dafik emphasized the importance of leveraging blockchain technology as an innovative solution to global financial challenges. He also appreciated the cross-institutional collaboration embodied in this forum while encouraging participants to actively engage in discussions to expand knowledge and foster future partnerships.
The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Niranjan Rajanna from Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University. He discussed blockchain from an economic perspective, highlighting how this technology can transform the traditional financial landscape through decentralization, transaction efficiency, and transparency. With a comprehensive analysis, Dr. Rajanna explained how blockchain can enhance financial inclusion in developing countries and support technology-based economic innovation.
The discussion continued with a presentation by Dr. Nurul Widyawati I.R., S.Sos., M.Si. from Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember, who explored blockchain from both economic and Islamic perspectives. Dr. Nurul elaborated on how this technology can support Islamic financial principles in transactions. She emphasized the potential of blockchain in enhancing transparency, fairness, and accountability in Islamic financial systems, such as zakat and waqf.
The final session was presented by Dr. Ika Hesti Agustin, S.Si., M.Si., also from the University of Jember, who discussed the implementation of blockchain in digital platforms for zakat management. She explained how this technology can be integrated into amil zakat websites to improve efficiency, trust, and real-time tracking of funds. The examples of blockchain applications shared during her session provided participants with valuable insights into the significant potential of this technology in empowering communities through digital philanthropy.
This FGD not only enriched participants' understanding of blockchain technology but also served as a productive platform for discussions aimed at fostering future research collaborations and innovations.
